Francisco Costa
, Calvin Klein CollectionFrancisco Costa was born in Brazil in 1964 into a family of fashion designers. In the early 1990s, he moved to New York City to study English and to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), where he was awarded the Idea Como/Young Designers of America award.
Before beginning work at Calvin Klein in 2002, Costa worked at the Susan Bennett Studio, designed dresses and knits for Bill Blass, collaborated for five years on designs for Oscar de la Renta, and was the senior design director at Gucci design studio. He has been the creative director of the Calvin Klein collection for women since 2003.
Costa has received numerous awards for his fashion design, including the 2006 and 2008 Womenswear Designer of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), the 2008 Mortimer C. Ritter Award from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and the 2009 Fashion Design Award from the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum.
