Mike Perry
, Mike Perry StudioMike Perry was born in Missouri and grew up near Kansas City. He started drawing at age four. Perry attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and earned a degree in graphic design. After college, he worked for Urban Outfitters in Philadelphia, PA for three years before moving to New York City.
Perry started his Brooklyn-based design studio in 2006. There, he works in a variety of mediums, including—but not limited to—books, magazines, newspapers, clothing, drawing, painting, and illustration. Perry works regularly for a number of editorial and commercial clients including Apple, The New York Times, Dwell, Target, Urban Outfitters, eMusic, and Nike.
Perry’s work has been included in group and solo exhibitions throughout the world, including the United States, Singapore, Japan, England, Germany, Canada, The Netherlands, Hong Kong and Australia.
In 2004, he was chosen as one of Step magazine’s “30 under 30,” and, in 2007, as a “Groundbreaking Illustrator” by Computer Arts Projects. In 2008, he received Print Magazine’s “New Visual Artist” award and the ADC (Art Directors Club) Young Guns 6 award.
Perry has written four books on design, including Hand Job (Princeton Architectural Press, 2006), Over and Over: A Catalog of Hand-Drawn Patterns (Princeton Architectural Press, 2008), Iron Me On (Chronicle Books, 2009), and Pulled: A Catalog of Screen Printing (Princeton Architectural Press, 2011). Perry has also self-published a magazine called Untitled.
Perry has taught at Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) in Minneapolis, MN, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, and Parsons in New York, NY.
